Southern Pines Photography Studio

Progress is happening at the new photography studio! Plaster and old paint are coming down and a beautiful new door has gone in. I went up today to check on progress and it was a bit dusty with all the work going on, so I snapped a few pictures with my trusty iPhone. Lugging my big camera into that paint/plaster dust would have made for a nightmare to clean!

Scraping old paint and replacing ceiling tiles

Flaking paint has been removed from the original tin ceilings and now they just need to be repainted. The above picture was actually snapped last week when I met the property manager to discuss electrical outlets and lighting. I’m excited about the chandelier going into the new sitting area!

Original exposed brick

I took the below picture last week as well, it’s the “Before” from a plaster covered wall that I wanted to chip away and expose some of the brick underneath.

And the “After”! I’m now seeing that I need to go back and rough up the edges of the chipped plaster. It’s a bit too clean of an edge for my liking. The floors in this part have been replaced with plywood so I’m going to get creative with flooring in this section. It has to be rustic, dark, wood, and non-reflective but at the same time smooth enough for my babies to not get splinters in their behinds. Any ideas?

Lots of shooting options

The new space will have several different shooting areas to offer my clients different looks. Originally I thought I’d take down this plaster wall to expose the brick but the light blue color with textured plaster splatters is actually pretty cool!  Now I’m going to keep it as a lighter color option. The original wood floors under this wall portion are in great shape and appear to be a dark mahogany color underneath all the paint dust.

Sitting area

The space below is going to be my new sitting area. I’m bringing a couch, shelves, changing table, and coffee station from the old studio and am going antiquing this weekend to find new odds and ends to fill the space!  The center of the ceiling will hold a crystal chandelier. There are a few I’m thinking of but still haven’t found the perfect one yet.

Entry Door

The new door has been put up in the hallway leading to the studio!  The glass will let all that gorgeous natural light into the hallway. Next up: frosting the glass and creating a window sticker with my logo on it.

I’m beginning to plan a Grand Opening for early June. I hope you’ll come see me in the new Southern Pines photography studio!
